Sidewalks on the Moon

No one can prove there is a meaning to life.
I must make my own life meaningful, that is all.
-Nader Khalili

Written as a follow-up to Racing Alone, Sidewalks on the Moon picks up and continues through the next step in Nader Khalili's journey. Khalili's second book looks more closely at how his ideas for building are not limited to the Earth but could be applied to building on the moon and Mars as well. Working with mud, fire, the poor, and poetry, he finds himself deeply involved in a NASA initiated program for creating a future Lunar colony for the 21st century. Khalili discusses his own personal transformation when he returned to the desert to test himself and experiment with new technologies in an effort to develop permanent, safe, and economical ceramic houses from the ordinary earthen homes of the poor. This led him to create Cal-Earth Institute in the Mojave Desert in California in 1991, where his ideas were turned into tangible reality.
